Mihai Cirstea

Mihai graduated from UBC in 2011 with a major in Cell Biology and Genetics and a minor in English Literature. After taking a year off to volunteer at a dog shelter in Romania, he returned to Vancouver and worked as a research technician for 4 years, studying septic shock and bacterial toxin clearance. In January 2017 he joined the Finlay lab as a PhD student. His current research focus is the role of the microbiome in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Interesting facts: Outside the lab, Mihai enjoys curling, exploring the local craft beer scene, and long dog walks on the beach.
